yep my last Honda had 7500 mile oil change intervals and oil filter to be changed every other oil change. Then the filter size was decreased by almost half. Sounded like a recipe for disaster. Today my 2002 expy hit 100k and I intend to get at least another 150k out of it. I plan to use the motorcraft synthetic blend and 5k oil changes to get there.

Oil filter should be changed every oil change for preventative measure, as for the Motorcraft synthetic blend you can't go wrong, my Ford Expy Manual recommends oil changed every 7.5k under normal driving. By the time you hit another 150k miles I'd imagine other things breaking down on the Expy before the Engine dying out.

I have no idea what any of you are talking about with going 7500 miles between oil changes. I change my oil and oil filter every 3000 miles. I use Valvoline Max Life Full Synthetic and I do the oil changes myself. In all my automotive training courses and among all my mechanically minded friends I've always heard the 3000 to 5000 rule, but I've never heard of people going 7500. The oil gets dirty enough after just 3000.

Think about it this way, if you change at 7500 that's only 4 oil changes by the 30,000 mile mark. If you change it out at 3000 then you do 10 oil changes in that same period. Even if you pay top dollar to a quick change place ($50 a pop) that's only an extra $300 in maintenance costs. Totally worth it for me.

I can see your reasoning there, but the way I look at it; the more I take care of her now, the longer she'll be able to take care of me. I've already got 120,000 hard miles on her, and I'd like her to last 120,000 more. Besides, I save huge bucks doing it myself.

theres guys runnign diesels going 30,000 on oil changes. milage doesn't really mean anything if the oil is still transparent on the dipstick chances are it hasn't broke down if you wanna be safe you can send it out for an oil analysist. you dads oil back in the 80's isnt the same as oil of today i have used all synthetic in all of my diesel trucks and change the oil every 10,000mi when i pulled the valve cover at 100,000 there is no gunk or build up

I use valvoline 5w30 full synthetic. i have 231,*** on the truck and change it every 5,000 miles its a daily driver with hot summer days and harsh winters also the engine is quiter in cold wheather start ups... inbetween changes it uses about a half a quart. i like valvoline cause its easy to get and they make a full syn. for bike as well. fuel mileage according to the console read out is 11.4 around town and 16.7 on the last road trip. they also have a 0w30 and a 5w20
