98 Expy 5.4l planning a engine rebuild, want more power!
It isn't a huge upgrade in and of itself, but if you can find what's known as a "PI" engine then that's a better platform to build upon. Stock they put out 260hp compared to the 235(or is it 245...) that the 97 & 98 5.4s had - I've read on here that they can be tuned for more than 260 as is...- Eric in Wyoming

1997 EB fuse block refurb
Back from the initial shakedown - had to tinker with the instrument cluster some to get lights and gauges to work, but I'd call it driveable now. 1997 EB fuse block refurb
I went ahead and used dielectric grease on all the pins pointing toward the fuses, then sprayed silicone on the rest. Reassembly went fairly smoothly with no more than a handful of stubborn pins. Everything's back together now, just need to reconnect the ground terminal to the battery and try...- Eric in Wyoming

Getting to the GEM
I just did this today as well. It ain't fun. But yes, the fuse block and GEM come out as one unit, and you'll need a small 10mm socket and considerable wrist dexterity to remove the bolts holding the two wiring plugs into the fuse block. I'd also recommend a flathead screwdriver to carefully pry...- Eric in Wyoming

1997 EB fuse block refurb
So I've had issues with the door locks/4wd/heater fan over the past few years, as well as a drain on the battery that would run it dead within a week. Thought it was the GEM, so I finally made myself pull the fuse block/GEM out today. However, when I popped the GEM circuit board out of the case...- Eric in Wyoming

Man I appreciate the offer! Still on the fence about whether to rebuild or replace - it'll still be a 25-year old vehicle with 25-yr old issues(lights, seat leather, carpet stains, etc) if I do the rebuild, so I gotta consider all that. Uhhhh... you're wanting to put the '03 2V engine into your '08? Sounds like some solid mods, but that engine won't work in your '08 Expy. Not without some extensive electrical changes.- Eric in Wyoming

1997 EB 5.4, struggling in upper rpms
Hi errbody, it's been awhile! Since last being on here, I've fabbed my own dual 2.5" exhaust with a pair of 36" glasspacks, exiting behind the rear tires at near the OEM angle. I've also opened up the intake boot some to help it inhale a little better. For 305,000 miles it does amazingly well...- Eric in Wyoming
