Spare key in a hitch vault? Safe?

Store the extra fob with the battery removed in an inside safe. The doors and tailgate will not open and the START button will say "No key detected."

    Battery Issue?

I visited Advance Autoparts. When cranking the battery put out 916 amps. It was slightly undercharged when it arrived, even after spending the night on the battery tender. The charging system checked out as OK. I was told to drive it longer. I am at a loss as to where to go from here.

    Battery Issue?

The battery is approaching four years old. The terminals are corrosion free. Sitting all night with no charger, the voltage drop does not exceed 0.05V, whether it starts at 12.84 V or 12.34V. I do not have a load tester.

    Battery Issue?

Here is my issue. If I drive for an hour, the battery reads 12.34 volts when I stop. Shorter driving around town gives lower voltage readings. If I put my Battery Tender on the battery and charge it until it says maintaining charge, it reads 12.84 volts after disconnecting the Battery Tender...

Does anyone use the door code instead of key to access vehicle?

I use it all the time. I keep a spare fob hidden in our cars without the battery installed so I don't get the double beep. We have an Expedition and a Bronco Sport, so if I am not carring the correct key I can get in anytime. The same goes for my wife. A lost fob will not destroy a trip as I...

Expedition as Long Trip Road Vehicle

We love the Expedition. We took a 2011 EL 18,500 miles for 3 months of camping in 2013. Across the northern US and back through the south to NH. We packed warm and cold weather tents, clothes and gear. It was 102 F in the Badlands of SD and 25 F in the Sierra Nevada's. At one stop in SD the...

    Stranded again.

Back in the day, 1982, I bought a Chevy K5 Blazer. It was built on the Monday after the Christmas - New Year shutdown. I know this from the paperwork I found in it after I took delivery. In the first three months I owned it, it spent one month at the dealer for many problems. I went to...

    Trailer Battery Charging

I solved the problem by taking an old cigarette plug/cord from a 12 V appliance and splicing new connectors that match my solar panel's connectors. I plug it into the rear compartment 12 V outlet (20 A max), pass it through the rear window, and plug directly into the battery. Now I arrive at...

Photos of Trailer(s) that you tow with your Expedition

Alto by Condo Safari. 1800 lbs dry. Except for lower gas mileage I don't notice it is attached.

    Trailer Battery Charging

I have been told to turn off the engine, connect the trailer, get back in, close the door, start the engine, step on the brake several times for 3 seconds and I should be good to go. I get the "Trailer Connected" message every time. My dealer tells me that I should get only 4 amps at the plug...

    Trailer Battery Charging

It is 12 V only. The "average" draw is 5 amps, but it uses a 15 amp fuse. The problem is most notable in hot weather. We passed on the propane version because it was smaller by 1/2 cubic foot.

    Trailer Battery Charging

There have been several threads on turning on battery charging in 4th gen Expeditions. I thought I was having problems becuase I would arrive at a destination with a partially discharged trailer battery. I brought it to the dealer and was told it is working properly. I was also told that the...

    Fuse Testing 101

Good information... except most of the fuses in my engine compartment are totally enclosed with no contact points on the top.

FordPass Reward Points. What have you redeemed for?

I got 42,000 points when I bought my Espy. Logging in and changing passwords deleted them all. For an old person with limited computer skills, this is just a scam.

Has anyone tried one of these vaults yet, on an Expy?

I have the Console Vault for my 2019 model. As above have said, good for PO visits and keeping cash handy. I also keep the registration papers it it. If the vehicle is stolen and the perp can't produce a registration to match his license, and has no idea who owns the vehicle, then red flags...
