Well this weekend it's time to get back under the truck, the vibration under power has increased a good bit again since the front main seal and damper were replaced. Sometimes it's worse than others and sometimes I can feel it in the brake pedal again. The inconsistency all the time is driving...
I suggest if you have a sunroof the front right drain is leaking. That drain runs down the A pillar. You can open the sunroof and look into the corners to see the ~3/16" drains. Use some lawn trimmer string to push through the drain and see if it's plugged up. If you don't have a sunroof...
The only thing I know of is the Rancho Quicklift struts. They are 9 way adjustable. I replaced the air suspension on my 2004 with these. You can soften the ride dramatically or stiffen it to the point it's harsh. My wife says it goes from Cadillac ride to pickup truck ride. They say it...
I've replaced my water pump 3 or 4 times now and never had coolant on the ground. It just sort of burns off or blows away.
Coolant leaks may only be present while it's running since it's under pressure and if there's a leak the pressure will dissipate pretty quickly. As a result you may not...
Unfortunately there is a myriad of tools that might be needed. With the age it could be a hose, the radiator, intake manifold, the water pump, heater core, if you have auxiliary rear HVAC it could be leaking back there.
If it's the water pump it would likely have been leaking for quite a while...
This repair has been completed. I was able to tack weld each hole I punched in the repair panel except 1. That 1 had foam right behind it that would very likely have caught fire so I just skipped it.
I did not worry about making it look good. It just needed to be structurally sound and all...
I always hated those dang screw type plastic fasteners. Usually had to mess with them to get 'em out. I picked up the Harbor Freight assortment and switched them all to a similar retainer, but the center pin just pushes in. Works great, east to remove using a flathead screwdriver to pry up a...
I've not heard or seen anyone that did this. I do agree the factory crossbars leave a bit to be desired. Mine have spent most of their 20yr life in the attic, in fact used only twice. If you remove the factory roof rack rails make sure you seal up the holes and I would consider a sealant on...
The front main seal and harmonic damper have been replaced. The seal appears to have resolved the oil leak. The damper didn't resolve the vibration, but it seems to have change the rpm ranges where it's vibrating in park/neutral. Of course it was inconsistent previously sometimes it just...
I often do the same with my 2004 EB.
I also keep a key hidden on the frame, it cannot be reached without getting under the vehicle to keep it safe. I don't trust electronics so I always want a mechanical backup.
Well the damper and seal arrived 5 days early somehow. So tomorrow I plan to take care of this. The seal installer my son-in-law 3D printed for me looks okay. I had expected it to be a bit wider, but I had no measurements. I just thought it would fit around the outer lip on the seal, but as...
Agreed. I'm just gonna have to take the approach of preventing the foam from getting hot enough to catch fire. 3 sides of the repair area have no foam behind them so I have little concern there. It's really just across the top. So I'll work around it or find a way to separate the foam from...
There may not be much aftermarket support since air suspension was an option. I've not seen any supplemental suspension systems for them. It would be easy to replace the rear coil spring strut with an air spring strut since they are available and would bolt in. What you'd need to figure out...
Well I had held onto a good size piece of the foam and after about 2 seconds with a lighter it caught fire. So it's clearly quite flammable. I'll have to be cautious for sure. I always keep a fire extinguisher with me when welding.
Well that would certainly make sense and fits with what I found both on the truck and the description of the part number. Very interesting, thanks for sharing the info on the brochure.
So is the concern with welding around foam the risk fire, toxic fumes or is there something else? I'm not...
That is so very true. Sometimes my wife can feel the vehicle vibrations I'm chasing and sometimes she can't.
Our 2004 had a very poor set of Continental tires, one was terribly out of round. Finally the regional Ford mgr just gave me a check to get my own tires with my word that I would not...
Haha, I can hear it now.
I bet it's like an oven in Vegas.
That's AllDataDIY. I have a subscription for all my vehicles and it's invaluable to me. I was hesitant to get it for several years despite my buddy insisting. It's been worth every penny and then some. Without I could not...
Well I be darned. That is wonderful, congrats on resolving it. Thanks for the detailed follow-up too. It kind of looks like that front/overhead switch melted just a bit.
Yeah maybe so. It is kinda weird. I know from Hamfisted that his 2003 does not have that box. My thought was maybe the 2003 was found to be weak there and this supposedly helped. It's plastic inside and sheet metal outside. I really don't know.
I can't say if the F-350 seat brackets would bolt down to the floor in the factory locations, but I doubt it. You might be able to mount the seat on the Expedition seat brackets, of course it wouldn't move easily then. All that said the hip room of thee Expedition is 63" and the the F-350 is...
I was unable to get this wrapped up today so I taped it up again and put the truck back together so it's ready to haul me to work again tomorrow morning. Next weekend I'll try again, but getting the rust cutout and the replacement panel ready for install is more than half the battle.
I went ahead and ordered a new OEM front main seal and damper.
Once again I am gonna be wishing I had e-fans since I have to remove the fan for the 3rd time this month.
This is also interesting:
BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR
The blower motor resistor:
is located on the plenum chamber near the blower motor.
has three resistor elements mounted on the resistor board to provide four blower motor speeds.
has an overheating device (thermal limiter) that will open the...
