Im just trying to understand
The Gem units come preprogrammed. I replaced mine three months ago. Did you check your fuse box when you took it out to replace the gem unit. If there is corrosion it would cause the problems you are having.- astro110

Getting to the GEM
I have replaced my gem. Pull the relays, on the back of the fuse box you have to remove the two wire blocks which are held by one bolt each. The tab is metal and you don't push it. It is there for stability. When the fusebox is loose you can slide the tab out of the slot. By looking at your...- astro110

What else can I try before having to buy a new GEM?
Had some of the same issues. First thing get your windshield sealed. The problem is either your fuse box or your gem. On my Expy it was the gem. When you remove the fuse box the gem is attached to it. It takes approx. 30 minutes to remove.- astro110
