I would like to have you guys that have roof racks to post pics, brand, and size of the rack. If you have lights on top list the size. I went through alot of guess work and research before purchasing mine and would like to eliminate that for the next person.

Please guys keep this thread free of comments ie..(Im looking to buy one, looks good etc..) if you have a rack then post the info I have, if not just look. I wanna keep it clean and easy, if you have a question then pm the person

Please make this a sticky:rocking:

Rack = Surco 6ft x 4ft
Lights= Pro Comp Driving Lights 7"
I dont recommed going larger than a 7" light unless you have a monster lift. Another fyi, if you have a 3rd generation you need to have a ft. wide cage.

Here are some pics of mine. It is very similar to the Yakima Mega Warrior.

I also bought the 24 inch extension to make it 67.5" L x 39" W x 6" Tall.

It was cheap and it looks tough. I have only hauled a couple old tires up there. The mounting hardware is easy and quick to attach and it mounts securely to the cross bars. Overall I am very satisfied with the quality for the price I paid. Just make sure that you buy the fairing so you don't go deaf with all the wind noise.

I'll update this tomorrow with better pics that aren't already in my photo album, with dimensions and brand.

1st Gen Expy - Curt Roof Rack

Mine is the Curt Roof Rack. With the extension this is 62x37. I'd prefer a wider one, but I was in a hurry and settled.

NOTE: I pulled off the front wind foil (I'm sure that's not the correct term for it) and it is more quiet without the foil than with it ?

12 55w lights 7 switches as follows:
4 up front (1 switch for the outside two lights, 1 switch for the inside two)
3 on each side ( 1 switch for the outside lights, 1 for the middle)
2 on the back (1 switch)

(My thinking is that I may replace the "middle" sets of lights with some Pencil Beams of some sorts, so I'd like to be able to run those separately from the wide pattern beams.)

Here's mine... just the Yakima cross-bars & faring right now... debating on a mega warrior from Yak, or just a dedicated basket from another manufacturer.

Heres my roof rack, custom made for the first gen expy. 80" long, 48" wide, 6"tall
and free bluprints soon. and if i cant post the video here it will be on my home page.
also in the video it sez the width is 42, wen in reality it is 48. 42 is how far apart the holes have to be drilled so that it fits into the factory hardware.

BLueprints coming as soon as i find away to copy them from a journal to a pc. hopefully my buddy has a nice scanner

FYI:
The channel type factory roof rack, with aero aluminum/plastic sliding crossbars, that came on first generation up to 2004 second generation Expy's, will bolt to the roof and interchange with the raised rail type of the 2005 and 2006 second generation. I'm probably guessing third generation too. I know this because for a time I had both my old '97 and newly acquired '05. I had all the Tule and Yakima accessories for the '97 style rack and the '05 rack didn't even have the optional cross bars. I was able to swap racks so I could save money and not have to buy all new and expensive Tule and Yakima stuff. The threaded inserts are the same spacing and location on both trucks.

I like this, besides I would have to coat the chrome bar black jMO. What does the cross bars with faring run? Oh I took my stock rack off and threw it on top of my storage building years ago= Street look :smokin:

Not sure if this counts as a rack but I researched a lot and really wanted to see the size comparison before I bought it installed on a 3rd gen. Couldn't find any so I'm going to post this here in case anyone else is researching cargo boxes. Specifically a 21cu Yakima Skybox cargo box on a 3rd gen expedition.

Does anyone know if these are decent options?

Safari Rack

I need to measure which would fit better on my Gen2 but from what I understand the Police Expedition Vehicles use Go-Rhino push bars... these should be pretty well built as well.
