I am interested in what oil brand you use and your results. What mileage intervals do you change oil ? your mileage and weather conditions and driving habits as well. So to start the ball rolling, I have a 2002 5.4 xlt with 99K miles.
Daily driver mostly city miles in Atlanta area. I have been a castroil user for years but am thinking of switching to motorcraft 5w20 which is a syn blend and retails for $11.50 for 5 quarts. I average 4000 miles between oil changes.
So far engine is strong and no burn off (consumption) between changes. any
opinions to share?

Full syn Mobile One is what I use. I use my truck for mixed driving daily and some long hauls. I change every 3k miles because it takes me awhile the drive in that much since I'm not in it everyday. You can't go wrong using motorcraft and 4k isn't bad. My truck is alot more seasoned.

How many miles do you have on your truck? What weight oil do you use?

I have owned 10 Fords, in which ALL (except my diesels - Rotella for them) of them I have only used Motorcraft Synthetic Blend at the vehicles recommended weight with Motorcraft oil filter. Never had a lick of motor trouble!

Hope that helps!

Yes that does help. Good strong recommendation. Thank you. Just curious,
what kind of mileage do you experience?

Good stuff. Only a few years ago it seemed that only imports would do that well.

One of the reasons i asked about oil was a different forum site was kicking around Mobil one. I read five pages of threads to come to the conclusion
several people just had some very strong negative feelings about Mobil one.
So with that i mind i am interested in your experience with the product. Do you feel that 5 dollars Plus a quart is worth the money? Love to hear your input.

Going to try Castrol Edge. Supposed to be pretty decent.

I used to use Mobil 1, but their quality has fallen recently. Or so says a friend of mine who sometimes reads the oil forums. He's the one whose engine uses like 12 qts of oil....it's a gasser

Castrol has been my oil of choice for 30 years. Mainly because it was recommended for import vehicle use. Never had an engine related failure. My switch to Motorcraft synthetic blend is an interest to save money in a fleet of 4 vehicles that i own and three more than i maintain for family. Let me know how it works for you with the Edge product.

As far as I know the type of oil doesn't have a significant impact on gas mileage, more like engine life... just don't use stuff from the 99 cent store.

The guys on Horsepower on Spike did a test with Royal Purple vs regular oil and picked up a few percent on mileage and horsepower. The only problem is that you need to take a second mortgage to afford the stuff.

My truck apparently always had Mobile 1 in it, but I just changed to Valvoline synthetic max life, since the truck has 116,000 miles. (also, it's just too damn cold to change the oil myself)

I use Lubro Moly 5W-40. Not as expensive as the Purple but a little more than the Mobil1

Not familiar with lubro brand. Where do you find it at?
I have seen royal purple.
Has any one had their oil analyzed?
I have thought of having mine done but really have not
checked into the process.
As far as the weather we are expecting 12 degrees down here
in the south not much by Ohio standards but cold enough to keep
me off the concrete

Lubro Moly is German stuff, right?

As for having it analyzed, you can get a free canister from Black Stone Labs (they send it to you.) Just put some oil in there, fill out the info (and pay $24) and they'll send you an analysis report.

As for the Edge stuff, it could just be my imagination, but it sounds as if the engine idles more smoother. Or, it could also be the cold. Either way, for better protection than Mobil 1 for about the same price, it's can't be too bad.

I've been using Motorcraft Synthetic Blend in all of the vehicles (except the 750 Nighthawk) since I bought my 2001 F250 V-10. I currently have In addition to the Truck, I have a 2005 Expedition, 2005, 2006 and 2008 Escapes, 1984, 1987, 1997 and 1998 Escorts. All get an oil and filter (Motorcraft) change every 5000, and I've never had an engine issue. Mileage on the engines range between 176,000 and 19,000.

I have had a lot of experience with the Castrol brand. They even made weird mixes for car manufacturers. We carried a 5/40 full synthetic. Problem was it was 7.50 a quart and dealer only product. That was three years ago. I am sure that you will happy with their products. I had three cars that had over 200k with Castrol. I only switched to Motorcraft Synthetic to save some money. Hope i don't regret it.

'03 122K Ford Expy EddB, I've been Mobil1 due to the fact that it makes it a hell lot easier to start Winter when it's 10 below in Nebraska and at 5 Bucks a quart and at 8k interval live couldnt be simpler.

I also came across this test:

So is this hype about Amsoil true?
