I am looking for some help on the side mirrors when you put the car in reverse the mirrors are supposed to move down to give you a better view, Now the just click and not move! Is there a gear in there that is stripped?

Thanks

As I said in the PM:

For now, I can tell you that you can pop off the mirror. Just carefully pull on it, and it'll pop off. Behind it is the motor. The motor has 3 or 4 "legs" (don't remember how many) that move in and out to move the mirror.

Does the mirror move normally when you move it with the mirror switch?

Yea, it's 3 nuts that are visible when the door panel is off. But, I was referring the the actual reflective mirror, it just pops off, leaving the motor exposed.

When you move the mirrors with the switch, and move them downwards, do they also click? Do both mirrors do this, or just one?

Both Mirrors do this but the right mirror did it about a year before the left one.

Yes it clicks when you move the mirror up and down without being in reverse!

So the mirror just will pop off form the outside without taking it off?

I would love to see a picture of one with the mirror off, I am thinking that there is a plastic gear in there that part of the teeth are gone?

Dont know if you can even get the parts needed to fix it? Maybe I can turn the bad teeth so that they are not engaged by the motor?

Not sure, haven't opend up a motor to see inside. I'll try to make a quick vid showing how to pop off mirror, and a look of what's behind.

Yea, some of the models/trim (mine doesn't do it) had it to where the mirrors came down when put in reverse. Never saw the purpose (I guess to see the curb/parking line when parking?).

Either way, I ran out of sunlight to do the video, so hopefully I'll do it tomorrow.

I never knew Expy's had this option. Nice to know. Hope you get it figured out.
My wife's BMW X3 has this feature, and I can't stand it. I have to turn it off just to back out of the garage as seeing the ground doesn't help backing down the driveway. I understand the reason behind it, but it hasn't grown on me even a little after 5 yrs.

Sticking?

My mirrors stick a lot when doing the auto-reverse bit. I've had it off for a while, but finding the need to parallel park a lot more now, it's useful to be able to actually see the kerb, which I can't otherwise.

But, when the mirror comes back, it's either all the way up, or all the way down, or some other random place, but never back where it started. I assume it's just a little stiff and needs some graphite, or other spray in the right place.

Any ideas which and where?

Not sure if I said it in the video, but once you take the mirror off, you have access to the motor. I think it's held in by a star bit. Maybe try taking it out, and see if there's any way of lubing it.

the motors are replaceable cheaper than a replacement mirror but the dealer don't have a listing on it, you'll need the part number.

Does anyone has the part number?
