My 2018 Expedition is in the shop and the loaner I was given is a 2024 Explorer, which has a very similar infotainment setup. I’ve noticed the new vehicle gets more SiriusXM channels than my truck, specifically all the way up into the 300s. Is there a way to upgrade or update the equipment in a 2018 so that it can get all the higher channels?

I think SiriusXM has tiers and my Expedition had all the channels when I got it until my free membership ended.

My online account says I get those channels “with a compatible receiver.”

I did some Googling and it seems Ford went from an older Sirius receiver to a SiriusXM receiver at some point and that’s the difference. I don’t know when that happened or if an upgrade or swap is even possible.

I looked into this…You can stream the channels from your phone and CarPlay or Android Auto. However late 2020 and 2021 can receive the upper channels with the upgraded sync 3.4/hardware. You could try to find one out of a 2021 to be safe and then code for it but it might not be worth th effort since streaming could net the same channel albeit using your mobile device.

That explains it. My 2019 Platinum is 3.4, which must be why I got those channels.
