Was wondering if anyone knows of a plastic/composite style rocker panel cover for the expeditions. Specially a 2012 Limited. Want to cover up some rust. Thanks

I looked into this a while back. You seem to have two choices:

1. Real pre-formed rocker panels which replace cut-out ones or are applied over the rotten ones.
2. Thin aluminium nonsense made of bent window capping material which is glued on with liquid nails.

I opted for the real ones installed by a body shop for $1200.

I was going to get the oem rocker panel $180. CUT out what I need from it for my pass side….and just place over rotted area like a COVER…should work,it’s molded/bent perfect, with some adjusting, can rivet or spot weld right over damage….thats best bet for $180……but $1200 isn’t bad thou if painted

The cover I bought was actually for the EL and had to be cut down. It was a nice fit to either replace the existing or go right over it. I think I paid that $180 for the covers and another $1200 to have the old one cut out and the new one welded. Could easily be riveted right over the old. Fit perfectly either way.

The new covers are "outer rocker panels" which are spot welded to the "inner rocker panels". Check that the inner panels are not gone - mine were fine. There are huge round holes in the inner panels that originally were covered with a rubber tape from Ford. Once the tape's gone, the rockers fill with mud and rot.

I’m thinking of doing this myself. I don’t have the equipment yet and think this would be a good opportunity to learn some welding. Do not want it to be a hack job. My 2015 looks great except for the Rockers. Wife says go for it. My intuition says to have the body shop take care of it. Still pondering it.

@Trainmaster do you happen to have any links or name of the brand for the cover? Or was it a generic one the body shop recommended? Thanks!

I just went to Google to look up the panels I bought and in fifteen seconds I found dozens of suppliers.

Just do a search. And there's a great YouTube video showing a guy installing these with pop rivets.

For starters, check out Mill Supply. They offer two types, a $50 "slip on" one and the $150 OEM-type that I used, made by an outfit in Detroit.

Man my passenger side is rusted. With a nice hole that if you don’t watch it will get your leg lol. I wish there was a nice patch to put on it for temporary.
