Greetings. My 2020 Expy runs great. But I do hear a very brief rattle when upshifting at times. Like, as it shift up. Short rattle and gone. Thoughts?

Perhaps a loose heat-shield for the exhaust system?

Probably normal, check for easy things like loose heat shield on the bottom of the trans, however the 10R80 is inherently a noisy transmission when shifting, shift solenoids, clutch packs engaging/disengaging, and the front mounted gear driven pump are all noisy on these units. If no codes and it's shifting fine, nothing to worry about.

Also if you find it more noticeable under very light throttle/slow acceleration, the wastegates on the turbos are likely activating around the same time, and this can cause a rattle sound as well, also considered "normal" by Ford, look up the wastegate spring hack on here and see if that helps

Rattles and weird noises drive me crazy. Add to that I have x-ray hearing. I'll spend hours trying to find them. My tranny slightly whines at 60mph. The dealer said I am hearing the pump and it's normal. Rattles can be caused by many things. shields, catalytic converter, something tied to vehicle came loose, also interior noises, like something in the console or glove box, seat belts, an item that fell into a vent or void, window and door hardware, coins, the list goes on.

I do hear the 10r80 in my Expedition buzz / rattle when it shifts or a few seconds before the shift. It’s the solenoids pulsing the fluid to create the shift it’s looking for. Transmission solenoids aren’t really on or off on modern cars and sent a pulse of electricity to open and close gradually so you hear a buzz. I had a few older Dodges in the mid 1990’s that did this as well. What’s funny is (well not so funny) the CDF clutch drum failed at around 60k and the dealer rebuilt the trans as well as replaced the valve body. It’s been louder with the new valve body and the dealer said the same on all they've done which is about 3-5 a week.

Ahh yes. The ol’ groaning solenoids on the A604/43TE. As a former Chrysler/Dodge tech I am well familiar with that sound lol used to have people come in complaining about it. My work beater is a 06 Stratus and it does the same classic Dodge noise.

Yeah the 10r80 is just plain noisy sometimes. My 18 Expedition is pretty quiet. But at work we have two different 2020 F150s that are super loud. Then our 2022s are also loud. The 2023s at work are quieter. But they all shift the same. Well except my tuned 18 shifts like a dream lol
