Last month a local dealer addressed the Brake Master Cylinder Leak recall on my 2017 Expy. I never had any issues with low brake fluid. Until now. I had noticed fluid on the garage floor (at least it's not going into the booster!) under my Expy after the dealer appointment but initially thought it was just from running the a/c or dripping off from rainy weather. Didn't think much about it-lots going on with elderly parents etc-- until yesterday when the brake warning light popped on alarming about low brake fluid level! Was out running errands-got home and checked. Sure enough-level was just below the 'low' level line. Ughhh. Have hadn't a lick of problem with my '17 Expy! I delayed on the recall repair as the family owned dealership I used and trusted for many years closed suddenly just after the recall and not knowing of another dealer to trust to do such work had me skeptical but then the plastic shield under the expy broke and was dragging so was thankful this dealership at least looked at that problem while on the road and thought-okay, will get the two recalls finally addressed. Which turned out to be quite the ordeal getting those recalls plus replacing the shield done. So now I'm wondering-if this brake leak is related to the master cylinder recall repair job or just a coincidence and better addressed by the auto place I go for oil changes/tires that did extensive brake work on my parents 2011 Expy and also on a 2000 Bug TDI I used to own. So I trust them more than this dealership. I hate to have to pay for something that may have been triggered by a potentially faulty repair at the dealership, though. I added brake fluid which satisfied the warning light but I must decide by tomorrow morning which direction to go-back to the dealer or to the auto repair shop. Thoughts? And if anyone here is in the west central IN area that has recommendations for a good dealership to work with-please share! My Expy has about 106K miles--no brake job since I took ownership at 36K miles in 2018. It's been a wonderful vehicle!

They prob had to bleed the system, if they opened up the system. Seems logical to me your leak is related to that repair.

Take it right back to them. They should warranty their work. I assume the leak is in vicinity of the master cylinder? Even so, they may have left a bleeder cracked open. That fluid will wreck the paint and you will get rust where it splashes or runs. Make sure they are aware you know this..

Thanks everyone for taking time to reply! I will confess I'm a 60-something single gal who can do minor mechanical repairs but have never dealt with brake systems. So I appreciate this forums wealth of information! :) Yes--it appears the leak is at the master cylinder-the large puddle on my garage floor is directly below. Calling the dealership ASAP--just hope it works out better than my last two experiences there. I sure miss my small town family owned dealer-they were awesome to work with!

Update: Called dealership who performed the recall work on the master cylinder. They squeezed me in this morning and discovered a loose fitting! Fixed that and even did an underbody wash to wash off any residual brake fluid on my Expy! Will monitor fluid level for sure but they assured me all should be good to go!
