I have an 03 expy with the auto climate control. The ac has been very temperamental. Sometimes it blows cold and other times it’s trying to set me on fire. I took it to the shop and they did the normal things at the time and recharged the system and checked for leaks. They didn’t solve the issue. They I took it back in for a second diagnosis and they came back to me with the sun load sensor was the issue. I had to source a used one as that part isn’t being manufactured anymore and I thought I found a working one as it fixed the auto headlight issue and initially it was blowing cold. But now it’s back to the same issue and I’m not sure where to turn or try next. If you have felt with this I would like to hear from you.

Have you verified the compressor clutch is engaged when the A/C is blowing warm? If not it could be a temperamental clutch or one of the pressure cut off switches high pressure or low pressure. The pressure switches can begin to fail intermittently, or so I have heard.

When the shop i took it to diagnosed the sensor issue they said that because of the faults that it was showing with temps the ac clutch wasn’t engaging all the time causing the issue with intermittent ac. Maybe there is truly an issue with the clutch as well. Do you know how to test the pressure switches? I will look at the ac clutch next time it starts to blow warm. Thank

I'm pretty sure the pressure switches are just 2 wire so you can jut unplug the connector and put a jumper wire between the pins to connect them.

This site will help some:

Here's a post from another thread, Intermittent AC clutch, that will help as well.
If you're confident system pressures are correct with the compressor turning, I'd check the high and low pressure cut-out switches. The high pressure switch (at least on my '06) is up by the windshield fluid fill on the liquid line. Remove the connector and jump the two wires in the pigtail and see if the compressor kicks on. The low pressure cutout switch pigtail is harder to get to, aft of the battery on the vapor line at the expansion valve. Same procedure. The switches do go bad, last year had to replace a combination of high and low pressure switches on my Passat and Bronco.
