A lot of guys that offroad alot will "Lincoln" lock the rear end. It is the cheapest and easiest way to make it locked. It is horrible for driving on the street though. I would look into a junkyard rear end.
I agree 100% with the 2000 rpm hint. I have "tried" to do that and it helps when done. It just sounds so good when you romp on it. The headers and magnaflow really let her rumble. The Gotts mod will increase airflow a little and making sure the tires are all properly inflated helps too.
A right angle drill would help with the stud extractor also. You may want to get some thread inserts and tap in the right size just in case you have to drill them all the way out. The welding trick is the best way to get them out. The heat from it swells the aluminum on the heads and allows it...
I finished up this job tonight. I decided to do the driver's side last night. The first thing I attempted to remove was the EGR tube that goes into the manifold. Snapped off at the slightest attempt to loosen. I called Oreily's and get a new one ordered. I then cut the tube with a die grinder...
OK I decided to put the headers on this afternoon. I got one side done in 3.5 hrs. I did the worst side first, passenger. The manifold was cracked and 2 studs were already broke. I broke 2 more while trying to get them out. I welded nuts on the studs after removing the manifold. I got them as...
I am planning on taking the stock front bumper off and making a full tube front end for Big Blue. I have the factory fog lights in the bumper, can I rewire some KC lights into that harness or will a stronger light burn up the factory stuff? I only want 2 lights in front and do not want to have...
That is the Exact same thing I said about my Suzuki. Guys told me not to take turns at 90mph anymore. That thing would not go over 65 so I was fine. I think I will just remove it for now and see how it acts. Links are pretty cheap so a fix would be cheap and easy if needed. Thanks guys.
I just noticed tonight that my passenger side sway bar link has ripped off. I think it is because I cranked the torsions all the way up. I think I will just remove the whole thing. Has anybody else done this and what good or bad has happened. I drove for years in my Suzuki Sidekick with no sway...
I just got the headers today. That was fast shipping. I bought them on Thursday and got them saturday. They did come with new studs so all is good. I will get the metal gaskets as well.
I plan on replacing all the studs. What are the best to get and where?? I got the headers from Summit today of Ebay for $190 total. I did not think that was too bad.
I am looking at putting shorty headers on my 1998 5.4L EB. The pass side manifold is warped, of course, and has busted 2 studs on the head. Instead of putting another piece of junk cast manifold on it I am going to put headers on.
Has anyone else done this and what are some things to look...
Don't forget guys, a lot of the 99's are still on the road with 150,000+ miles and still run great. Why buy a new one when the old one still runs and looks great?? I think the gas thing at $3++ a gallon is the biggest factor though. Also who has 45-50K laying around anymore for a gas hog SUV...
