These issues may be unrelated. 2017 Limited 4x4 with ~160k miles.

Occasionally about once or twice a quarter.. more often in the winter for some reason, I smell a slight burning smell in the cabin. It is not coming through the vents and doesn't matter if heater is on or not. Kinda smells like burnt oil I think it transmission fluid. Very hard to decipher which exactly.

Anyways I was changing oil recently along with serpentine belts for good measure. Belts were fine but saw what looked like caked on oil on the front diff and signs of occasional leak on the back of oil pan.

I think the front diff oil for just be residual when changing oil filter but oil near back of pan looked like a seal leak.

It's never enough that I have to top off oil between 5k oil change interval.

Should this be something I fix or ride it out until/if it becomes a heavier leak? Pictures attached.

That doesn't look too bad really. Do you notice a oil stain in your driveway where you park it? If you want to freshen up the seals you can get a bottle of that ATP-205 and pour it in the crankcase. It works very well to rejuvenate oil seals and gaskets, without harming the rest of the motor. Clean off the muck that's there with some degreaser and see if anything comes back. You can find it at AutoZone or Amazon.

I have a 2015 Expedition Limited 4x4, purchased new.

I had a similar burning smell in the cabin - intermittently. No oil on the ground when parked.

When I had other defects repaired by my Ford dealer, they determined the engine vacuum pump (mounted on the right rear of the engine, under the cowl HVAC air intake) was leaking oil from a fitting. It was replaced under terms of my Ford ESP.

The pump is hard to see and access, so you may have a oil fitting for the pump leaking, causing the burning smell (which can be drawn into the cabin via the cowl air intake).
