Issue with USB in center console

I have an iPhone cable plugged into one of the USB ports inside the center console of my 2017. Every time I start it up and plug in my phone it doesn't charge or connect to apple car play. However if I plug it into the other port it works fine. Then the next time I start the car I have to plug it back into the other one. It makes no sense to me why I can't just plug it in and forget about it. I don't want to keep swapping the port each time.

Anyone else have this issue?

I was under the impression that the usb inside the center console was only for updating the sync system.

I could be wrong and someone smarter than me will hopefully chime in.
