I recently purchased a 2008 EL XLT with a missing cargo panel... It's the one at the very rear, next to the hatch, and covers the tools. I went to the local Ford dealer and they want $786 for it. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to where I might purchase one of these, hopefully for less than $786.

Thank you!

I don't think you're missing anything. That shelf is the forward cover, and the panel you have pushed forward is what covers the rear section. I just went out to my truck to confirm, with pics.

I agree with the plywood, I did that with my EL, but I have the whole back covered with a cargo mat I got from autozone so nobody sees the wood

Put the part numbers in a search on e-bay and set it up to alert you when that part shows up. Someone will part out an EL. Also check for related or superceded part numbers.
