Is there any way to switch the Ford keyfob 'off' entirely ? like my wife's 2016 Mercedes, which is also push to start etc etc, you double click the lock button, you get a long flash from the tiny LED on the fob, and the fob shuts off entirely so it won't do proximity unlock or anything, saves the fob batteries when the key is in storage, etc.

That's a neat trick. How do you turn it back on?
And I don't think the Ford fobs have such a feature.

on the MBZ, you push the lock button again, and the LED short blinks and it unlocks the fob.

apparently even newer MB's have a motion sensor in the fob, and if its motionless for over a minute it disables itself entirely, move it and it wakes back up.

Is there a reason to turn the FOB off? The batteries are so cheap. A six pack is less than $6 and will last mor than 6 years.

The spare fob just sits around and never gets used, but we bring it in the camp trailer when we're traveling just in case the normal fob gets lost or misplaced. was sorta worried the fob in the fiberglass trailer might be close enough to actuate the locking. And, the spare fob just sits around unused for months on end.

There's devices that allow car thieves to scan for remotes from outside a building or house; the device communicates with the remote and then can clone it. There's videos showing thieves outside houses at night scanning for remotes—when they find one they can clone it in seconds—and then backing the car out of the driveway and they're gone. The whole process usually takes about 2 min. The faraday pouches block all signals in and out.
