I have an 08. 242,000 miles. Many miles, I know, but I love this vehicle and I’m at a loss. There’s zero power when accelerating, especially on hills. A sucking sound in front of the drivers side engine compartment. And a popping from the manifold on the passenger side, especially at startup. I tried the carb cleaner vacuum leak test, no results. Any suggestions? I really just need it to run reliably at this point.

That’s my next plan. I have no vacuum leaks. So it’s either the IMRC or a converter. I think.
Thanks for the advice!

I have a 2007 Limited Expedition and had similar issues with it. During acceleration on hills it would lose power and start to chatter, ping and stall out. It would not do it all the time but kept getting worse. The OBD code indicated bad coil packs. I changed all of the and it was fine for about a week and the same thing would happen again. Eventually found the problem by accident. It was the spark plugs were loose. Just happen to be changing them at required interval and they were all loose. I mean so loose that I removed them just by finger turning the socket and long extension. Apparently ford did not thread out the plug holes long enough and after a while the plugs work themselves out. There is two different ways to fix is though. You can torque them over the required setting or there is an extension sleeve. I just tightened with a bit more elbow once the plugs are seated and have not had anymore issues. I was lucky enough to catch it before the plugs blew through the hood, which has happened to a few people.
