Just got the resonator replaced. Sounds quieter, obviously.

I'm still left wondering what fouled/destroyed cats and destroyed resonator.

I'll just be monitoring/logging fluid levels going forward...

I appreciate the input from everyone here and welcome any further thoughts on the matter.

If you plan on keeping it awhile, I suggest springing for an extended warranty. Repairs on these vehicles are not cheap, and it's likely worth the piece of mind. Someone else posted that Covert sells extended warranties at a reasonable price.

One would think any defects in the material or workmanship of the Cats would have shown up before your trip. Sounds like the Cats overheated and cooked themselves. How is a good guess, but coolant or excessive oil (or fuel) can do that. If your Cats overheated to failure, and cooked the Resonator, plan on a new muffler in your future if the 2019's are as thin as the 2020's.
