What would make the car just snap with no warning? One friend suggested transfer case, so husband switched it out and nothing changed. Engine runs great but no matter what gear we shift into, we're in neutral.
I was driving for about an hour before I headed up hill for 10 or so min. Accelerated on a slightly steeper incline and a loud single metal "clack" noise was the last thing I heard before there was no gear engaged at all.
Any educated guesses would be much appreciated. We are new at working on the Expedition and have never done anything heavy on it before.
