Hey y'all! What y'all think, should I remove the fender flares or paint them black? No idea what the condition of the paint is underneath, but assuming it's ok what y'all think would look better? 20210506_181138.jpg

Would look a little strange w/o them & have the door trim bottom caps. Paint them and see how you like them or use some black masking tape (you may have to paint this) and see how it looks.

It will match your window trim in the right color.

On my Excursion I had a body shop paint them to match the truck. They had someone from PPG sent out to supervise the work. I think because to make up of the plastic or something.

On your project
  1. Your in LA you maybe good. Near the Ocean? There may/should be rust starting 1/3 of the way around the wheel well near at the second screw.
  2. If you remove the flares you'll need to plan on doing body work. There are 1/4" holes every four or five inches around the well edge facing outward. Should be the same for the doors too.
  3. As far as getting an idea on the appearance try riphip's masking idea it's quick and painless.
  4. Order a spray can of matt black Flexidip. Spray it on like it leave it, don't peel it off. Left it on and scratched/gouged it? Repair / touch it up, or peel it off and reapply.
  5. Don't forget the top of the front bumper.
  6. The front valance may be grey if it got replaced. Unless the original EB tan one is still on it from when the conversion was done.
  7. If you're lucky you might find black rear bumper pads.
  8. I changed my tan boards to black (you're good there).
Is that a crease on the left rear quarter?

I added 2” spacers to stock wheels on 33 x 11.5 tires. Matte Black finish. Wife hated the Matte so since it’s hers I went back over with glossy clear (I’ll add that photo of glossy finish later). I rhino lined the fender flares but not sure about putting them back on lol. Maybe I’ll cover the fender holes and rhino them flush instead

If this was my Expy, I would paint all the trim (Doors & side bumpers too) pieces black with a clear coat for a uniform look to match the windows & mirrors.

But as already mentioned, if you remove them, you will have some holes to fill in from the missing retainers/bolts, so that would turn this into more of a body work job, which would be ok if you're able/willing to do that kind of work. If not you could have a shop do it, but that would obviously cost more $$ too.

If a person is building a trail or overland rig, I like it without the flares, but that's just my opinion.

Looking forward to getting my 35s, slight lift (no more than 4") and 2" spacers.
