This is so crazy. My service guy who is an absolute boss and awesome dude… delivered the car back to my office and he said the shop foreman drove the car after they cross balanced the tires and that the only thing that he sensed was some feedback from the low profile tires.

Of course, I take the car onto the Florida Turnpike and exactly at 73 MPH, the car starts vibrating like nothing ever changed.

It’s the same high frequency vibration, akin to a tuning fork. Pedal, my entire right leg, steering wheel, center armrest, and driver side door armrest. There is also the accompanying mini rattle from some contents inside the vehicle that is apropos with the high frequency vibration.

It’s hard not to lean towards the tires not being the issue but rather something structurally within the frame and its components.

I’m going to ask the shop manager to escalate to Ford directly and pull the rabbit out of his hat with the contact that he mentioned earlier.

Also, considering calling Ford directly myself because this vibration is an absolute joke. Otherwise the vehicle is f’n phenomenal.

I will still try to end this by putting Michelins on.

Ford Customer service told me 'Since the dealership is assisting you with the cost of replacement tires, there is nothing more we able to do for you at this time'.

4 Michelin Defender LTX M/S 2 tires on.

Completely different riding vehicle. Even motionless is just ‘sits’ better and tighter.

This is a new car. Vibration not detected above 73MPH.

Out the door for $1,323. (Plus $86,455 for a new Expedition Stealth)

@RazrM5 very glad to hear the Michelins made such a difference - it’s still so unbelievable to me that the Generals are so incompatible with the vehicle and/or such trash but your situation gives me hope…I had my third visit this past Thursday and local dealer put the new set of Generals on mine yesterday and RFB’d them but sadly that did nothing to eliminate the insane amount of vibration, skipping, jitters etc I get. Dealer said next step is them calling Ford - I guess to seek approval for Michelins which the dealer recommended to me at my first visit but suggested I get my salesman at the selling dealer to pay for. More to come…

@rd618 did the Michelin's fix your vibration issue? I'm two weeks in to my new 2024 Exp Max Ltd and its been vibrating's from day one at speeds 30mph+. Road fore balancing did nothing so dealer is chalking up to bad batch of General Grabber tires and replacing with a new General Grabber set later this week.

It was a combination of the Michelin and learning after 4 rebalancing that the machine the dealer was using was not calibrated properly. On top of that the tech kept using LT settings for truck instead of SUV. Even though you can do that, these are not E rated tires, so the LT settings have a wider tolerance band. You feel that when the tires have small sidewall (anything above 20” is smaller sidewall).
I took it to an independent local shop and they immediately found all 4 were off the by exact same amount and the same degree placement of the weights. Now no vibrations (aside from road feel imperfections) over 80. Not ford covered. But for $200 I didn’t care.

Update: after an additional 500 miles after
installation of the new Michelin shoes… there is a slight perceptible vibration at 75+ MPH. I almost want to say that this is normal for a vehicle built this way at this weight. I believe it has a bit to do with the low profile side wall on these 285/45/22s.

I’ve just never felt this in a comparable German car or SUV. But I believe that this is normal at this point. It took the best quality tires available to get to normal.

I don’t feel like this is something to complain about any further. It is within the realm of acceptability, considering the factors described above. But it also makes me considered not purchasing another Expedition with this size of tire.

@rd618 did Ford cover the cost of the Michelins or did you have to pay out of pocket for them to replace the OEM tires. You may have already said but I don't recall. That's crazy they were using the wrong vehicle type for the balancing settings.

Vehicle type isn't wrong, you can put type E tires on these, but if you want a higher tolerance you don't want LT selected.

Ford paid for the Michelins.

i paid out of pocket to have the michelins re-balanced, about $200.

I drove a 2024 XLT with the 20 inch black wheels that had 3 miles on the clock. It had been sitting on the lot since February. It had no vibration whatsoever. Drove a 2024 Limited with 22's and it vibrated. I think its a 22 inch wheel issue on the vehicles.
