I've got an 02 xlt that I got for about a grand and I'm looking at doing an engine swap from the 5.4 triton engine to a 7.3 powerstroke with a diesel conversion. Main question is if the transmission will match or if I need an adapter if they even make those. The reason for this "upgrade" is that I am a bored ASE student and need a bad idea to work on.

Why don't you do something cool like a Coyote swap ? The added weight and complexity of the diesel will kill the Expy. You might as well just put the Expy body on an F-250 chassis. The Expy frontend components are not designed to support that kind of weight and it would be dangerous to you and everyone else around you if you ever did get it rolling.

I still wish we had access to smaller diesels engines for swaps like this. I think I exhausted all the decent diesel swap options for these trucks lol
