I work for a ford dealer, no other expeditions new or used we have make this noise nor have i experienced it in 9 years of being around these vehicles.
Our 2016, 2019, and our current 2024 have done this, along with the last 2 F150's that we have owned. I believe it is the catalytic converter cooling off after shutdown. Metal expands when hot and will go back to it's original size after cooling off.
My 2020 does this, though nowhere near as loud. It doesn't do it much on short trips around town where things don't heat up to full temps. I don't know of any car I've ever owned that didn't do this at least a little.
My 2021 doesn't do this BUT like others stated it definitely sounds like metal cooling off. Everything factory under there or has something been replaced like the Cat converter or heat shield?
