Power running boards - keep them in OUT position?

In before the next thread, my power board got torn off when I jumped a curb by accident

My issue is getting them clean at the car wash. I was leery at first - but now - once I go into neutral I extend them (out) and both sides get cleaned. No issues.

Did the same thing but car wash mechanicals hit front of step and broke front cap and dented aluminum step. Sits lower than a fixed step so be careful doing that.

I just go to the wand wash and it's all good.
