    Hi-Lift Jack Mounting Ideas

Does anyone have any thoughts on where I can store a Hi-Lift (farm) jack in a regular-sized Expedition? I tale it with me when driving on the beach, and usually juts throw it in the back with a fabric case.

    Inner Tie-Rod End

Anyone know the wrench size to remove the inner tie rod end of a 2008?

    Transmission Harness Melts & Routing - 2008

Deep down on the passenger side between the right exhaust manifold and the firewall lies the transmission harness. Mine is melting. I replaced the plastic loom and within days it melted again. Next, I'll wrap it with a heat-proof fabric heat shield. That should work. Does anyone else have...

    2008 Front Brakes

Replaced front brakes on my 2008. I did this five years ago and the old Motorcraft pads had 55,000 miles on them. There was still lots of pad material on them but they were starting to wear unevenly. After the five years, I also replaced the rubber caliper pin boots and the pins. I found...

If You Could Do it Over, Would You Buy It?

I've heard nothing but bad things about the 4th Generation Expeditions. If you own one and could go back and change your choice to buy it, would you?

Starter Replacement - That Top Bolt.

If you're going down this path and wonder how you get the top bolt out of your starter, I did the job in the street today. Two hours' work. Forty degrees out there. You need an assortment of 3/8 and 1/4 drive sockets, a stubby ratchet handle and a right angle Phillips screw driver. I removed...

    Front Bench Seat

Anyone out there have an '07 or '08 with a stock front bench seat? They were an option in those years.

Replacing Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor with Tire Spoons

One wheel sensor has bitten the dust in my 2008, so I'd like to replace it. I've broken down many tire beads and replaced many tires using a hammer and tire spoon, and I figure I'll do this myself. The tire guys around here want $150 for the labor with me providing the new banded sensor. So...

    Console Gun Safes

As anyone up on the news may have assumed, there will be a huge demand for automotive gun safes in the coming months. In New York, where keeping a pistol locked in a car was always frowned upon, new legislation will require that it remains locked up in my car whenever I enter an establishment...

    Stabilizer Bar Bushings?

What's with this stuff? Replaced front bar-to-frame bushing two years ago with Delphi bushings and they are goobered out after 24,000 miles and two years. Couldn't be easier to change, but I'd gladly pay a few more than the $8 these cost for something better.

    Mavis Chain Tire Store Rant

Yeah, I know I promised myself a hundred times never to return to Mavis Discount Tires again. But I needed four Michelin tires, Mavis was down the block and their price was cheap. What the heck, right? Tires went on, no problem and they were balanced right. A month goes by and I get a...

    For Sale: 2008 Running Boards

Have a great set of non-motorized, regular length black running boards from an XLT. No brackets or hardware, but the boards are in great shape! On Long Island in New York. Probably fit all of the third generation trucks.

    Steering Shaft

As regular readers know, these trucks have a problem with the universal joints on their steering shafts. They bind and the steering becomes stiff. Today I changed the bitch. There's a 13mm pinch bolt on the top of the shaft and a 10mm pinch bolt on the bottom. The top is easy. The bottom...

    Tasca Ford Gone?

Been trying to reach Tasca Ford Parts for weeks. Phones are answered with a recording. Emails are ignored. No way to contact them. Guess I have to find another parts house. Been dealing with Tasca for decades.

    Sway Bar Bushings

This afternoon I replaced front and rear sway bar bushings in my '08. It was 30 degrees out, but the hollow droning clunking sounds lead me to think it was time. The bar seemed to be moving around in the front bushings' enlarged holes. The roads are horrible here and these things wear out...

Seat Shop sale on Replacement Seat Covers

I just ordered OEM-type replacement covers for my 2008 from The Seat Shop. They have a 20%-off sale going on so the driver's bottom seat cushion in OEM leather/vinyl was $167. They make nice stuff and have very helpful videos and customer service. If you want to restore your seats to...

    Code Reader/Key Programmer

For years I used an Auto Enginuity code reader and a laptop for my trucks which also provided cylinder balance readings to locate bad coils and key programming for PATS keys. Well it's the end of the road for the scanner. Can anyone suggest a replacement code scanner that will also program...

    2-Year Exhaust

I've been complaining that aftermarket exhaust parts only last a few years. I've always used Walker because they seemed to be quality stuff, made in Pennsylvania. Well here's Walker's own website saying that the c-r-a-p rots out after two years...

    Chinese Motorcraft Hub

Straight from Motorcraft. Wheel bearing hub assembly said "Made in China". Put it in, took it out, sent it back. Sang worse than the one I took out. Junk. Might as well have bought the $18 TorquePowerDragon at Advance Auto Parts.

    6R75 Transmission Capacity

There's lots of confusion out there. Anyone know *from experience* how many quarts of Mercon SP the 6R75 in a 2008 takes to refill after just dropping the pan? Thanks.

    Slow Window Repair

Has anyone been successful in speeding up a slow window without replacing parts? I'm assuming you can clean up and regrease the regulator and parts, but does the repair last or does it just gum up again when the weather becomes cold? Is it worth doing this, or should I just replace the regulator?
